DPU Crews Have Restored Power In Western Area
The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) has just announced that its Electric Distribution crews restored power to all customers in waves by 5 a.m. today.
The outage was caused by an underground fault at Diamond Drive and Trinity Drive.
Power to the area went down just before 2 a.m. today in Western Area and toward downtown in neighborhoods along Trinity Drive between Diamond Drive and 20th Street. The outage affected more than 1,300 customers. Read More

Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities reported at 2:14 a.m. today that the power is out in Western Area and toward downtown in neighborhoods along Trinity Drive between Diamond Drive and 20th Street.

Los Alamos County Councilor Chair Denise Derkacs and members Melanee Hand and Randall Ryti will hold a town hall meeting 6 p.m. Monday, June 26 in Council Chambers to discuss potentially increasing the minimum wage within the county.
This meeting serves as a continuation of a May 23 council meeting, where two inspiring middle school students presented a case for raising the minimum wage from $12 an hour to $15 an hour.

County: Open Gym Volleyball And Tae Kwon Do Program Changes Through June 30
Due to maintenance at the Los Alamos Middle School throughout the month of June, the Community Services Open Gym Volleyball and Tae Kwon Do programs will experience temporary location and time changes through June 30, 2023.
Open Gym Volleyball will be held 8-10 p.m. Mondays at Pueblo School and the Tae Kwon Do program will move to Barranca School, with their existing hours of play remaining the same.

Los Alamos County Council unanimously approved the Atomic City’s five-year transit plan during its regular meeting Tuesday night.
The plan includes several recommendations, which are:
Increase in Route 1 Peak services, as staffing will allow;
Discontinue Route 2 Peak services;
Support the Saturday service concept recommendation as staffing will allow. Micro-transit options with limited fixed route are identified as the logical service to pilot;

Gibson: Gross Receipts Tax Increase Should Be Rejected
On June 27, our County Council will consider a half-percent increase in our local gross receipt tax (GRT) rate. It should be rejected.
Governments provide essential and beneficial services and impose taxes to pay for them. A few tax rate increases are justified. Most are not, although specious arguments are always made that they are needed to provide some essential or popular service.
This proposed increase is unique in that no argument is made that it is needed. Instead, it is proposed to increase County government revenues NOW in case they drop LATER.
