New Mexico COVID-19 Update Dec. 23: 1,150 New Cases, Totaling 342,649 With 44 New Deaths And 295,977 Recovered

SANTA FE — New Mexico state health officials announced 1,150 new COVID-19 cases today.

Los Alamos County reported 6 new cases, bringing the total to 1003 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)

This update includes 44 new deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19 and a 7-Day positivity rate of 9.4 percent.

Per the state Department of Health, the most recent cases are:

  • 387 new cases in Bernalillo County
  • 2 new cases in Catron County
  • 57 new cases

County DPU Begins New Round Of Tree Trimming

COUNTY News:

To mitigate hazards and power outages caused by tree branches growing around power lines, the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) has begun a new round of tree trimming in Los Alamos and White Rock.

Tree trimming professionals under contract with DPU’s Electric Distribution Division are trimming and removing potentially hazardous branches and trees throughout the County.

Los Alamos County Council Vacates P&Z Approval Of Special Use Permit For Daycare Center In La Senda

Los Alamos County Council unanimously vacated Planning and Zoning Commission’s approval of a special use permit to operate Worms and Wildflowers daycare in a residence at 113B La Senda in White Rock and directed that the issue return to Planning and Zoning for a new hearing.

County DPU: Don’t Fall For Utility Payment Scam

DPU News:

Customers of the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) have reported receiving scam phone calls stating utility payments must be made immediately during the call to avoid disconnection.

While DPU may reach out to customers about past due payments by phone, the department’s representatives will never require that a payment be made over the phone.

In the calls reported to DPU, the callers identified themselves as representing PNM, the Public Service Company of New Mexico. All Los Alamos and White Rock properties with utilities are served by DPU, not PNM.

County: Power Restored To Most Residents … Timber Ridge And Caballo Apartments Remain In Dark

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities (DPU) reports that power has been restored to Los Alamos after an underground faulted cable caused an outage to all of Circuit 13 before 6:30 a.m. today.

The only properties still without power are Timber Ridge and Caballo Apartments.

DPU electric crews are working cautiously to repair the fault. They were able to restore most of Western Area first. Around 8:30 a.m. they cut the entire circuit again purposely in the course of repairs, but that interruption was short and enabled them to restore a greater number of connections.

Power Outage Undeway Around Trinity Between Oppenheimer And Sandia, Including Western Area & Ski Hill

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) reports early this morning that residents and businesses in the areas around Trinity Drive between Oppenheimer and Sandia, including Western Area, are without power. Pajarito Ski Hill also is in the dark.

DPU electric linemen have been dispatched and are investigating. They will try to separate the ski hill for repairs and bring the areas in the townsite back up first.

Los Alamos County Atomic City Transit Holiday Schedule

COUNTY News:

Beginning Monday, Jan 3, Los Alamos County Atomic City Transit will resume peak service for Routes 1 (Downtown) and Route 6 (North Mesa).  

This will provide Route 6 with 30-minute service and Route 1 with 15-minute service.  

Route 2 Peak Service will not be available until further notice and all other services will remain the same.
