BPU Schedules Public Hearings For Sewer Rate Hike
COUNTY News:
The Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is proposing sewer rate increases spanning the next four years.
Two public hearings for the rate changes are planned. The first public hearing is Jan. 19 at the Board of Public Utilities (BPU) meeting. If the BPU approves the rate ordinance, a second hearing will be held Feb. 8, 2022, at the Los Alamos County Council meeting.
The rates must be adopted by the County Council before they can be put in place.

Local Residents In Need Of Red Cross Shelter Assistance Following Windstorm Advised To Reach Out To Los Alamos County Office Of Emergency Management
COUNTY News:
Officials with the Los Alamos County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) advise that individuals in Los Alamos whose homes are damaged or uninhabitable due to this morning’s windstorm may call Emergency Management Specialist Cody Ulrich at 505.709.0436.
Ulrich will coordinate shelter assistance through the American Red Cross.

Fierce Winds Take Down Trees And Knock Out Power Across Entire Los Alamos Townsite

Power has been restored to electric customers in Los Alamos after an early morning windstorm led to an electric outage for the entire townsite.
Linemen from the Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities have turned their attention to the ski hill, which is the only area still without electricity.

DPU Crews Continue Working To Restore Power
COUNTY News:
Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities (DPU) reports that as power is gradually restored for electric customers in Los Alamos, there may be isolated instances where power remains out.
At this time, Fairway Drive in Western Area is still down even though the rest of that area has been restored.
Additionally, customers may continue to be without electricity if there are branches on power lines in the immediate vicinity.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, power is expected to be restored around 1 p.m. for North Community, North Mesa and Barranca Mesa residents.

The Los Alamos Community Services Department reports that due to the wind storm today, both the Los Alamos County Golf Course and Ice Rink are still without power and phones lines are not working.

Power Now Restored To Western Area
COUNTY News:
The Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities (DPU) reports that Western Area is the latest part of the townsite to have power restored after an early morning outage affected the entire Los Alamos townsite.
Circuit 13 was restored around 9:20 a.m. However, the ski hill, which is normally on that circuit, has been isolated and is still without power.
Circuits 14, 17 and 18 were energized earlier, restoring power to Eastern Area and the downtown area.
DPU crews are working to restore power to North Mesa, Barranca Mesa and North Community.

The Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities (DPU) reports that after a power outage early this morning affecting the entire Los Alamos townsite, circuits 14, 17 and 18 are now energized, restoring power to Eastern Area and the downtown area.
Department of Public Utilities crews are investigating the cause of the outage.
Restoration of power to Western Area, North Mesa, Barranca Mesa and North Community may take several more hours.

The Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities reports that power is out throughout the entire Los Alamos townsite.
Both tie circuits are open and Department of Public Utilities linemen are responding.
Crews will attempt to restore circuits 18, 17 and 14 first to bring power back to the downtown area, Eastern Area and the wastewater treatment plant.

Los Alamos County Racial Equity And Inclusivity Task Force Seeks Public Participation On Working Groups
COUNTY News:
The Racial Equity and Inclusivity Task Force was chartered by Los Alamos County to gain an overall perspective of racial equity and inclusivity in Los Alamos and identify best practices to promote racial inclusivity and a feeling of belonging.
The task force is comprised of nine community members appointed by the council.
The task force is now seeking community members to serve on various working groups that have been formed.

During the Los Alamos County Council meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. today, the Los Council will consider a request from the New Mexico Developer TNJLA, LLC, to amend the Project Participation Agreement (PPA) supporting the development of an extended stay hotel and conference center at 20 St., south of Trinity Drive.

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) announced today its first identified case of the COVID-19 Omicron variant.
The case was identified Sunday, Dec. 12 and is a female adult in Bernalillo County. The individual reported recent domestic travel to a state with reported cases of Omicron.
The individual was seen in a local emergency room and discharged stable to home. DOH is conducting a thorough case investigation.
