A natural disaster introduced Julie Williams-Hill to Los Alamos County.
In the wake of the Cerro Grande Fire, Williams-Hill, who was employed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), came to Los Alamos to develop policies and procedures for settling claims through the Cerro Grande Assistance Act. She also worked with Los Alamos County to settle its claims.

After lengthy discussion, Los Alamos County Council hit pause on deciding whether to approve the purchase of a piece of art for the Leisure Lagoon as recommended by the Arts and Public Places Board. This would be the largest art acquisition since the solar tree was purchased for the Municipal Building about 5 years ago.

New Mexico COVID-19 Update Nov. 17: 1,530 New Cases, Totaling 298,313 With 12 New Deaths And 255,650 Recovered

SANTA FE — New Mexico state health officials announced 1,530 additional COVID-19 cases today and a 7-Day positivity rate of 12.3 percent.
Los Alamos County reports 5 new cases today bringing the total to 864 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)
This update includes 12 new deaths today in New Mexico related to COVID-19.
Per the state Department of Health, the most recent cases are:
- 424 new cases in Bernalillo County
- 39 new cases in Chaves

On Nov. 30, the Los Alamos County Community Services Department will be hosting ADA Audit and Transition Plan project meetings in an effort to discuss how we can work together to improve our accessibility to those in our community with disabilities.
This audit is focused on recreational facilities in our community which include athletic fields, picnic areas, trails, playgrounds, and other amenities. We are seeking input regarding barriers of use that you may have experienced.

Pfizer Vaccine Clinic For Ages 5-11 Set For Nov. 22

The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) is administering the Pfizer vaccine for children 5-11 years old, 1-4 p.m. Monday Nov. 22, at the First Baptist Church at 2200 Diamond Dr.
Appointments are required and NMDOH has set up instructions at https://vaccinenm.org/kids for parents to register dependent children for the vaccine.
Parents/Guardians should schedule appointments and download consent forms. Use the event code ESVLGNF when registering.

Golf Course Waterline Replacement Begins Nov. 17

This Wednesday Parker Construction will begin replacing the main waterline that maintains proper pressure for the Los Alamos County Golf Course front nine irrigation system.
The waterline runs beneath Diamond Drive and per the project manager there will be shoulder work resulting in the eastbound bike lane being closed periodically throughout the project.
