Council Action Taken At Meeting Sept. 28

Los Alamos County Council approved, with a few amendments, adoption of  the Los Alamos and White Rock Master Plans as part of the 2016 County Comprehensive Plan.

The adoption was approved Tuesday night during the Council’s regular meeting. It passed 5-2 with Councilors Sean Williams and James Robinson opposed.

This is a two-step process. The revised plans will return to Council Oct. 19, which is when it will vote on whether to amend the comprehensive plan and incorporate the two master plans.

Los Alamos County Social Services Division is hosting a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, for the Grand Re-Opening of its new location near the Health Commons at 1183 Diamond Dr., Suite E.

Council Discusses Regional Capital Projects Fund

When it comes to the Gross Receipt Tax (GRT) Los Alamos National Laboratory pays the County, Los Alamos County Council seems to agree the wealth should be shared with the surrounding neighbors.

On the job in Los Alamos is Deputy Police Chief Jason Wardlow Herrera in his office recently at the Los Alamos Police Department at 2500 Trinity Dr. Wardlow Herrera began his law enforcement career in 2002 as a deputy sheriff with the Taos County Sheriff’s Department. He joined LAPD Sept. 25, 2006. In 2008, Wardlow Herrera was promoted to sergeant, in 2010 lieutenant and in 2012 commander. New Mexico COVID-19 Sept. 24 Update: 714 New Cases, Totaling 248,788 With 14 New Deaths And 218,310 Recovered

STATE News:

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials announced 714 new COVID-19 cases today in New Mexico.

Los Alamos County reports 2 new cases today bring the total to 648 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)

This update includes 14 new deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19.

Per the state Department of Health, the most recent cases are:

  • 199 new cases in Bernalillo County
  • 2 new cases in Catron County
  • 45 new cases in Chaves County

County Reminder: Water And Sewer Rates Increase Oct. 1

COUNTY News:

Officials with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities remind residential and commercial customers that water rates will increase by 4 percent and sewer rates by 2 percent Oct. 1, 2021.

Residential customers in a single-family home that use 6,000 gallons a month, for example, can expect to see their water bill go from $45.70 to $47.52 and their sewer bill go from $55.95 to $57.07.

Commercial customers with a 3-inch meter that use 20,000 gallons a month can expect to see their water bill go from $218.04 to $226.64 and their sewer bill $424.71 to $433.15.

EM-LA Discusses DP Road Cleanup Work At Council Meeting

Work on parcels of land off DP Road yielded unexpected and unwelcomed surprises. These surprises are radioactive material, which forced the Department of Energy (DOE) to return to the land parcels it transferred to Los Alamos County and perform cleanup work.

From the time that Los Alamos County was incorporated in 1969, its code has remained pretty much unchanged. Until now.
