County Council Discusses Racial Equity And Inclusion

Los Alamos County Councilor Katrina Martin provided an update on discussions with community organizations regarding diversity, equity and inclusion along with initial recommendations for some next steps, during the Tuesday night council meeting held via zoom.
Recommendations include:
- Implement implicit bias training for County staff and elected officials—contract a trainer with complementary outside perspective;
- Review the Community Equity and Inclusion Survey (performed in the fall of 2020) to identify potential

With our residents staying home this holiday season, many people are shopping online to buy gifts for their family members and friends.
The result of online shopping may cause an abundance of cardboard boxes that may not fit in your recycle roll cart.

Los Alamos DPU To Launch Survey On Environmental Goals
COUNTY News:
Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) customers may receive a phone call or an email between the hours of 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. during the week of Dec. 14.
Triton Polling and Research was hired by the department to survey a statistically significant, random sample of citizens to assess the level of community support for its environmental goals. Specifically, these are six goals adopted by the Board of Public Utilities to increase clean electricity and conserve water and natural gas.

Betty Ehart Senior Center Closed Due To Positive COVID Test
COMMUNITY News:
Effective today, Dec. 8, the Betty Ehart Senior Center at 1101 Bathtub Row in Los Alamos is closed due to an employee testing positive for COVID-19.
Contact tracing has been initiated and is being conducted by director at the Betty Ehart Senior Center.
Home delivery meals scheduled for today, Dec. 8 in Los Alamos are canceled, but will resume Wednesday, Dec. 9 from the White Rock Senior Center.

Water Line Break On 37th Street In Aspen Neighborhood

UPDATE: Water crews with the DPU have repaired the water line on 37th Street and restored water pressure to all affected customers.
COUNTY News:
Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities water crews responded to a water line break this morning on 37th Street, south of Diamond Drive in the Aspen neighborhood.
Customers on 37th Street between Diamond Drive and Villa Street will experience low water pressure until around 8 p.m. today as crews work to repair the line.
Excavation will occur near 2300 37th St., with minimal impacts to traffic at the construction zone.
