NM 4 Has Reopened

Traffic Alert Update:

N.M. 4 has reopened to traffic.

A stretch of the roadway was closed Wednesday due to an extremely high volume of downed trees that continued to fall and pose a severe public safety risk as a result of high winds.

The County reminds motorists to continue to use caution when traveling the roadway and to watch for fallen trees and icy conditions. Read More

Sancre Productions, producer of the 2019 Los Alamos Summer Concert Series at Ashley Pond, announces Big Head Todd And The Monsters, Chevel Shepherd and the return of Igor & The Red Elvises in this year’s concert series happening 7-10 p.m. each Friday, May 24 to Aug 30.
 
Starting at 6 p.m., each concert will have a  food truck court, concert opening music and dance performances from area youth and a Nonprofit Row.

NM 4 Remains Closed Until Further Notice

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department reports that the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) has advised that N.M. 4 will remain closed until New Mexico State Police opens it.

NMDOT also stated they will not send crews into the Jemez until Thursday. Read More

Utilities Department: Updates On Power Outages

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities reports the following updates on various power outages:

  • WESTERN AREA: As of 5:10 p.m. today, power is restored to the Western Area with the exception of Fairway, 44th and 45th street and a small section of Trinity Drive. Crews are removing trees to restore power to these remaining area. Estimated time to restore power to remaining areas is unknown at this time.
  • PONDEROSA ESTATES: As of 5:10 p.m. power is restored to Ponderosa Estates.
  • SYCAMORE: DPU has received reports that Sycamore area is without power. Crews

Update On Power Outage In Western Area

COUNTY News:

Update: Electric linemen indicate that the Western Area should be restored by 5 p.m. today with the exception of 44th and 45th streets. Power will be restored to 44th and 45th streets once crews are able to clear trees from that area.

The Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities is reporting a power outage that is affecting all of the Western Area.

The outage began at around 2:30 p.m. and electric linemen have responded.

The estimated time as to when power will be restored is unknown at the moment. Read More

The Los Alamos County Emergency Management Department has issued a wind advisory, fallen tree and power line alert.
 
Large trees are continuing to fall throughout Los Alamos County. Citizens are cautioned to avoid parking, walking and driving near large trees and power lines.
 
The Emergency Management Department is instructing citizens to report emergencies to the Los Alamos Police Department and avoid non-emergency calls at this time.

Traffic Alert Update:

Due to an extremely high volume of downed trees that continue to fall and pose a severe public safety risk as a result of today’s high winds event, LAPD will continue to keep N.M. 4 CLOSED westbound from West Jemez Road (at the LANL “back gate”) until further notice.

Access eastbound on N.M. 4 at West Jemez Road at the back gate remains open to Bandelier and White Rock.

The Los Alamos Police Department is asking motorists to avoid driving roadways adjacent to large forested areas because of high winds and the danger of falling trees.

Fifty to 100 trees are down on N.M. 4 between the back gate and the Valles Caldera National Preserve.

LAPD and the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) are cutting a path through for stranded motorists. Large snow drifts also are present on areas of the roadway.

Traffic Alert: N.M. 4 Is Closed Near Back Gate!

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Police Department has CLOSED N.M. 4 at the Laboratory “back gate” in both directions because of downed trees in the roadway.

N.M. 4 is closed for about a two mile stretch in either direction from the T intersection of W. Jemez Road/N.M. 4 from mile marker 47 to 49. However, the State is highly discouraging any travel along N.M.4 from White Rock to Jemez Springs because of blowing and drifting snow and zero visibility.

Joe Dudziak retired Friday from the building division in the Los Alamos County Community Development Department. In recognition of his work, Dudziak’s colleagues threw him a party at Fuller Lodge.
