2017 Special All-Mail Election Takes Place Tuesday
COUNTY News:
The Los Alamos Public Schools and UNM-Los Alamos Special All-Mail Ballot Election is set to take place tomorrow, Jan. 24, 2017. Ballots were mailed to 14,168 registered voters, at the address on file with the County Clerk as of Jan. 3, 2017.
To date, the Los Alamos County Clerk’s Office has received 5,375 returned ballot envelopes, with 15 ballot envelopes unsigned and 902 envelopes undeliverable.

Seniors Housing Forum Is Feb. 7
COUNTY News:
The next Seniors Housing Forum is 9:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7 at the Betty Ehart Senior Center, 1101 Bathtub Row, in the downstairs main activities room.
Seniors with interest in the County’s housing initiatives should plan to attend as well as those who are considering moving, renovating, downsizing or selling, or who want to discuss new innovative ideas for senior housing in the County.
There will be a variety of presenters from the public, non-profit and private sectors at the forum and time for Q & A. Refreshments will be served.

Over the last few months four serious motor vehicle accidents involving residents have occurred. These accidents typically involved a westbound turn by a motorist from SR4 onto the Truck Route at this signalized intersection. An undisclosed amount of money was located by a citizen and brought to the Los Alamos Police Department.
So far, no one has contacted the police department concerning their loss. Police urge anyone who lost this money, to call or stop by the police department and describe what kind and how much money they lost to include the type of packaging it was in.

Los Alamos Youth Activity Center Gets Remodeled

The Youth Activity Center (YAC) in Los Alamos, operated from the south side basement of the Community Building on 20th Street, is scheduled for remodeling starting mid-January.
Improvements include leveling the uneven floor and updating the nearly 30-year-old finishes.
After completion of improvements to the Los Alamos Teen Center, staff from the Los Alamos Family Council, operator of the YAC, requested improvements to the obsolete and deteriorated interior. With project savings from the Teen Center and others, this task became possible.

By KELLI GUIDERLos Alamos Friends of the Shelter wants to thank the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter for its quick and decisive response to containing the spread of parvovirus that recently sickened two shelter puppies. These puppies came to our shelter from another facility with an extremely high euthanasia rate due to space constraints.
Transfers of this type give the animals that remain in that shelter a better chance of adoption in that community. In return, our community shelter gains a more diverse pool of adoptable animals. Active Read More
