DP Road Phase II Reconstruction Project Work Activities Today

COUNTY News:

TLC Plumbing & Utility, under contract with Los Alamos County to construct the DP Road Phase II Reconstruction project, will be performing road grading today, June 7, near the Los Alamos County Fire Department Training Center.

The work will require one-lane closures with flaggers present to direct traffic. Access will be maintained during this work.

Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians are advised to use caution around construction activities and avoid entering the work zones.

County Lifts Stage 1 Fire Restrictions June 6

LAFD News:

Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova with the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has announced that all fire restrictions in Los Alamos County are lifted, effective June 6, 2025. This decision comes after careful evaluation of recent rainfall and an increase in fuel moisture content that has reduced the immediate risk of wildfire.

Concrete Pour At East Park Basketball Court Friday

Weather permitting, Los Alamos Landscaping & More, under contract with the Los Alamos County Parks Division, will conduct a post-tension slab concrete pour for the East Park basketball court Friday, June 6.

Work is scheduled to begin at 4 a.m. and will continue throughout the day until approximately 10 p.m.

Utilities Seeks Council Approval For Rate Hikes

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is proposing two rate changes, for electric and sewer services, and a future rate restructuring that would allow DPU to implement Time-of-Use billing for electric service.

The rate ordinances were introduced to the Los Alamos Board of Public Utilities (BPU) at its regular monthly meeting March 19 and to the Los Alamos County Council May 6. Piñon School Access Road Construction Begins Today

Construction crews with Jaynes Corporation will begin work on the Piñon School access road, Wednesday June 4 to Sunday Aug. 10, 2025. The project, a partnership between the County Public Works Department and Los Alamos Public Schools, involves road and drainage improvements for the north access road to Piñon School. 

The project will temporarily close the current Piñon Access Road at Sherwood Boulevard. Pedestrian access to the tennis courts will be provided with parking in the Piñon Park/Rocket Park parking lot.

The Los Alamos County Council is seeking to appoint members to the local Board of Registration.

To apply, individuals should submit a letter with their name, address and a short paragraph indicating why they are interested in serving on the Board.

Letters should be emailed no later than 5 p.m., Tuesday, June 17, to LACManager@lacnm.us.

Dogs and cats often come into contact with ticks when they are outside. Like humans, pets can get sick with tickborne diseases. In addition, pets can transport ticks from outside the home to inside, where the ticks may then bite people. Dogs can also be infested by the brown dog tick, which is unique in that it can infest indoor spaces like homes and kennels.
