LALT Parking Lot To Close For Renovations Starting June 9

COUNTY News:

Beginning Monday, June 9, access to the parking lot at the Los Alamos Little Theatre (LALT) Performing Arts Center Building at 1670 Nectar St. will be closed to the public for renovations.

Los Alamos County Public Works, Capital Projects & Facilities Division officials explain that the closure will allow a much-needed health and safety-focused renovation project to begin, aimed at improving the fire safety response time in case of emergency. The project also includes abatement of asbestos containing materials from the ceilings and flooring in the building.

Summary Of Council-Adopted $368 Million FY26 Budget

 On April 23, the Los Alamos County Council adopted a $367.9 million budget for fiscal year (FY) 2026, representing a $9.6 million decrease from the previous year’s $377.5 million budget.

A two-page summary of the adopted budget is outlined in the “Budget in Brief FY 2026,” which can be accessed online at https://lacnm.com/Budget. The full FY 2026 Adopted Budget Book is scheduled for publication in August.

The overall reduction from FY 2025 is due to a combined $38.7M decrease across two funds:

Camp May Remains Closed Weekdays Due To Construction

Campers, hikers, bikers and other recreators are reminded that Camp May is closed to the public Mondays through Thursdays until further notice due to road construction occurring on Camp May Road under the regional Jemez Mountain Fire Protection Project (JMFPP).

Camping at Camp May is limited to Friday and Saturday nights on a first-come, first-served basis this year to allow for full work capacity on the project. The entrance/exit to Camp May is closed from midday Sundays until Friday mornings. Access to Camp May from nearby trails is not permitted when the campgrounds are closed. Read More

County crews have noticed a few carts getting overfilled lately—branches sticking out, lids unable to close, or items piled on top.

When carts are overfilled, it:

            • Makes pickup difficult or even impossible;
            • Puts stress on the collection equipment; and
            • Increases the risk of messes or injuries for our crews.
