Geotechnical Soil Boring Activity To Occur April 9 In Support Of N.M. 4 Crossing And Multi-Use Trail Improvement Project

GeoMat Engineering and Testing will be utilizing a truck mounted drilling rig to conduct Geotechnical Soil Borings on Wednesday April 9, at two locations along the N.M. 4 Trail between Sherwood Boulevard and La Vista Drive in White Rock.
Work will occur 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and access for pedestrians and bicyclists around the drilling equipment while on the trails will be facilitated by the drilling crew.
No impact to traffic on N.M. 4 is expected as the drilling equipment will be working on the trail off the edge of the N.M. 4 roadway.

Aquatic Center Olympic Pool Resurfacing Project Update

The Los Alamos County Community Services Department has scheduled the resurfacing of the Larry R. Walkup Aquatic Center Olympic pool from March 2026 to October 2026. The resurfacing project involves removing and replacing the existing plaster shell within the pool. During the project’s duration, both the Olympic and Therapy pools will be closed. Atomic City Transit Service Alert On Suspended Routes
City Transit Peak Service on Route 6 in the AM is suspended today Friday, April 4 from 6:15 a.m. to 9:21 a.m. Also, Peak Service on Route 1 from 11 a.m. to 12:58 p.m. Peak service on Route 6 in the evening will run as normal from 3:05 p.m. to 6:21 p.m.
These route suspensions are due to staffing shortages.

The design for the new Los Alamos Fire Station #4 is getting more defined. The station will replace the existing facility at the same location, 4401 Diamond Drive.
Project Manager Sobia Sayeda reported Thursday that the preliminary design was concluded in March and work is now focused on schematic design.

A new strategy is being pursued to expand affordable housing offerings in Los Alamos; rather than building new, Los Alamos County Council agreed to look toward existing housing units.

Power Has Been Restored To Barranca Mesa
Standby electric linemen from the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) have restored power that that affected about 585 customers this evening on Barranca.
The outage was caused by an underground fault on Los Pueblos. When the fault occurred, a breaker simultaneously malfunctioned, causing the outage to impact not only the Los Pueblos area, but the rest of Barranca Mesa.
DPU has crews on standby 24/7 for electric, natural gas and water disruptions.

Wildfire Contained To Acre At East Fork In The Jemez Today
Sandoval County and the U.S. Forest Service responded this afternoon to a small wildfire at East Fork in the Jemez Mountains. A Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) response was not requested.
Residents may see and smell smoke in the area, but LAFD officials indicate there is no cause for alarm. The fire was contained to one acre, and crews will remain on scene to ensure no flare-ups.
LAFD reminds the community to be extra cautious and aware of the concerning fire conditions following the dry winter season.
