LANL Foundation Announces Pete And Elaine Lyons Endowed Memorial Scholarship

The LANL Foundation Monday formally announces the establishment of the Pete and Elaine Lyons Endowed Memorial Scholarship, in honor of the two long-time Los Alamos residents, who both placed a high value on education.

The scholarship is being funded by initial donations from the families of the three sons of Pete and Elaine Lyons: Dan, Dave and Mike. The $6,000 scholarship per year will be open to all graduating high school seniors in northern New Mexico planning to pursue a four-year college degree. The scholarship’s Read More

The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (NMDCA) has announced that Margaret M. Marino, executive director of the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science (NMMNHS), will retire effective Oct. 22, 2021.

Marino was appointed in November 2015, bringing with her 30 years of experience as a museum professional. Previously she served for a decade as executive director of the North Museum of Nature and Science in Pennsylvania.

As part of the superintendent selection process, the LAPS School Board invites parents, students, staff and community members to participate in a survey to provide input on the desired qualities and characteristics of the next leader of Los Alamos Public Schools.

LAHS Eco Club Hosts Climate Strike Event At Pond Thursday

LAHS News:

In an effort to spread awareness about the necessity of political action for climate change, the Eco Club at Los Alamos High School is taking part in Climate Strike 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7 at Ashley Pond Park.

Climate Strike is an international movement that was started by activist Greta Thunberg.

SANTA FE — Thousands of students, parents, teachers and community leaders across New Mexico will walk, bike, scoot or skate to school Oct. 6, in celebration of the 25th Annual National Walk to School Day. 

This year, 34 elementary and middle schools in New Mexico have registered Walk to School Day events on walkbiketoschool.org.
