SANTA FE — Santa Fe Community College’s Visual Arts Gallery presents a virtual online exhibition, “Painterly Objects” Aug. 28 through Oct. 8, featuring the work of SFCC sculpture faculty member John Boyce.

NMDOT Reminds Drivers To Slow Down In School Zones

NMDOT News:

SANTA FE — With some schools providing in-person learning at reduced capacity, the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) reminds drivers to watch for children in and around school zones. 

“It has been a while since drivers have had to slow down in school zones, stop for school buses or wait for children and parents to clear crosswalks,” Transportation Secretary Mike Sandoval said. “We don’t want anyone getting hurt. Two Los Alamos School Board Candidates For District 4 Vacancy To Be Introduced At Forum Monday Aug. 24

The Los Alamos School Board, with input from staff and the community has received applications from two candidates for a vacancy on the School Board created when Julia Baker stepped down because her family is moving to Spokane, Wash.

The School Board solicited letters of interest in the District 4 position, which must be filled by someone living in the District. LAPS: ‘Back To School Nights’ Schedule For Parents

LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools across the district have already begun hosting Back-to-School nights (virtual open houses) to welcome parents to the new school year.

While this is not the same as in past years when parents walked the halls of each school where their students attended, it will still be informative and fun.

Aspen and Barranca Mesa Elementary Schools held their Back-to-School nights for parents earlier in the week.

With the start of the 2020-2021 school year, many teachers and other Los Alamos Public Schools staff are relying on email to disseminate information to students and parents.

We would like to remind parents to check their Promotions, and Spam or other folders for important messages from LAPS.

Parents can create a filter to avoid future messages from LAPS or a specific school site ending up lost. If you find a message from the schools in your spam folder, select it and mark it as “Not Spam”.

La Vista Opens White Rock Learning Center

In an effort to support students and families during the 2020-21 school year, La Vista Church of the Nazarene has opened the White Rock Learning Center.

The WRLC exists to support the elementary school age children of essential workers in completing their online schoolwork and providing supervised recreation time while their parents are at work.
