CLOVIS — This spring, the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) will offer Clovis residents living near Cannon Air Force Base and Base personnel the opportunity to have their blood tested for specified per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) free of charge.
NMED issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a contractor to administer the PFAS blood testing program and is seeking to host two events where up to 500 adult volunteers residing within four miles of Cannon Air Force Base Read More

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) has announced that its beloved after-school kids’ club, Forest Explorers, is now open for registration for winter/spring 2024.
This is a self-directed opportunity where Forest Explorers are encouraged to build forts, get up close to the natural world, and build their awareness of the different plants and animals around them.

Weather Alert: Extreme Cold Temperatures Forecast Tonight
The temperatures in Los Alamos County tonight are forecast to drop into the single digits.
The County is encouraging residents during extreme cold weather conditions to follow safety tips to keep loved ones, pets and homes safe.
Safety Tips:
- Bring PETS INSIDE: keep outdoor cats inside, walk dogs on a leash and dry their fur and paws when bringing them inside, move livestock to sheltered areas with non-frozen drinking water.
- If you will be out of town during cold weather, LEAVE THE HEAT ON in your home—no lower than 55 degrees—to help prevent pipes from bursting.

I have been manually shoveling snow for years. There have been a number of problems with shoveling snow. It wears me out and is hard on my body. I park my vehicles on the street. I spend a great amount of time (hours) clearing away the snow on the street so that my vehicles can be moved with losing traction, tearing up mechanical parts on the vehicles, etc. Then, the Los Alamos County snow plows come along during initial and / or “mop-up” plowing efforts and spray snow back under and against my vehicles (in seconds).

SANTA FE — Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) fire managers have scheduled potential prescribed pile burns in both the Jemez and Española ranger districts as early as this week.
Operations will involve pile burn projects intended to reduce hazardous fuels, enhance wildlife habitat, and improve forest health.
