The Los Alamos Public Library is hosting a special author talk from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at Mesa Public Library. Christine Vo will share the story of her family, the personal relationship she has with her father’s birthplace, and the genesis and challenges of co-writing a book.

The dual memoir “My Vietnam, Your Vietnam” by Christine Vo and Nghia M. Vo weaves together the stories of a man who fled Vietnam in 1975, and his daughter who returns a quarter of a century later.

Daily Postcard: Solitary Sandpiper Spotted In White Rock

Daily Postcard: This Solitary Sandpiper was seen May 2 at the pond behind the Water Treatment Plant in White Rock. According to All About Birds and the Audubon Society, these birds are robin-sized. They are also long distance migrants, breeding in Canada and Alaska but migrating, sometimes through parts of New Mexico, almost always to Central and South America and the Caribbean. The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) extends heartfelt thanks to the community for celebrating 25 years throughout the month of April—and especially at the 25th Anniversary Earth Day Festival Saturday, April 26. LALT Seeks Helpers To Pack Up Performing Arts Center

LALT News:

Due to upcoming renovations, the Los Alamos Little Theatre (LALT) must vacate the Performing Arts Center at 1670 Nectar St. by the end of May.

In order to do so, everything must be packed.

A very small band of dedicated (and exhausted) volunteers have been working hard doing as much as they can but they need help.

As many people as possible are invited to join one or more of the next three work parties:

  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 10;
  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 17; and
  • 9 a.m. and onward Sunday, May 18.

Daily Postcard: The sun finally came out Wednesday morning revealing a blanket of snow on Chicoma Mountain. Chicoma Mountain is the highest point in the Jemez Mountains and its tree line in this area is exceptionally high, and the mountain is forested almost all the way to its summit, which is conspicuous from Los Alamos, Santa Fe and Española.
