Daily Postcard: The Walnut Rim Trail is a great place to find Warblers. There local wildlife photographer Jonathan Dowell, Ph.D. found this Grace’s Warbler singing its spring courtship song all morning this past weekend. Most common in Los Alamos between the end of April through the end of June, a few can be found here as late as September. These warblers often prefer the tops of pine trees, making them easiest to find by listening for their songs. The Los Alamos Historical Society has announced its upcoming lecture, a free event 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 13 in the Pajarito Room at Fuller Lodge. Author Tom Ribe will speak on the 25th anniversary of the Cerro Grande Fire.

Ribe is a writer and environmental advocate based in northern New Mexico. He is the author of Inferno by Committee: A History of the Cerro Grande Fire, which offers a compelling and meticulously researched account of the prescribed burn that turned into one of the most destructive wildfires in New Mexico history.
