They have a prominent triangular crest that often stands nearly straight up from their head. Like other jays, Steller’s Jays are bold, inquisitive, intelligent, and noisy. They spend much of their time exploring the forest canopy, flying with patient wingbeats. They come to the forest floor to investigate visitors and look for food, Read More

Red Fox And Gray Fox Spotted On Barranca Mesa

But spotting red foxes has been very rare until this year. This red fox has been seen fairly consistently over the last few months. Red foxes are typically drawn to more open habitats while gray foxes favor forests. Photo by Hari Viswanathan

Daily Postcard: Coyote Strolls In Fall Sunshine At Bandelier

Daily Postcard: A coyote strolls in the fall sunshine around Bandelier National Monument. As members of the canine family, it is not unusual to discover that they have many characteristics similar to pet dogs. Coyotes are omnivores, eating pretty much whatever they can find. Although secretive, they don’t shy away from living in close contact with humans, and why it is important to keep campsites and picnic areas clean to discourage these wild animals from frequent contact with visitors. Los Alamos County has an impressive art collection; from the abstract to the realistic, the County has a vast array of sculptures and paintings displayed throughout its facilities and spaces.

But what does everyone think about these pieces? The Art in Public Places Board wants to know and has issued a three-part questionnaire to gather people’s feedback. The survey is open through Oct. 31 and is available at https://polco.us/n/res/vote/los-alamos-county-nm/public-art-in-los-alamos-county Read More
