The very foggy view this morning from Monte Rey South in Pajarito Acres (one of the highest points in White Rock). Saturday’s heavy rain (0.35″) and cold morning (45°F) helped create one of the thickest fogs of the year. Photo by Bob ReedyView Of Foggy Sunday This Morning In White Rock

Daily Postcard: Saint Fiacre Watches Over Local Garden
Saint Fiacre watches over a garden of chives, garlic and alyssum on Friday in White Rock. St. Fiacre (c. AD 600-670), the priest, abbot, hermit, and gardener, was known for his sanctity and gift for curing infirmities. He emigrated from his native Ireland to France, where he constructed for himself a hermitage together with a vegetable and herb garden, oratory, and hospice for travelers. He is the patron saint of gardeners, herbalists and various infirmities. Photo by Shari Mills Read More
‘Kilroy Was Here’ Pops Up On Windstream In White Rock
The phrase ‘Kilroy was here’ was popularized by GIs during World War II, often appearing in graffiti alongside a cartoon doodle of a bald man with a prominent nose peering over a wall. Although the origins of the expression and accompanying drawing are widely debated, the graffiti has always held great meaning for the American Armed Forces. This Kilroy popped up Friday on a Windstream on Paul Place in White Rock. Photo by Shari MillsPlaces & Spaces Seeks Community Memories For Black Hole Oral History Project

Keller: Wildflower Extravaganza Blooming Right Now!
By CHICK KELLER
PEEC Los Alamos Nature Center
Late summer is always a good time to see our wonderful wildflower numbers. Right now there is a particularly large number of blooms (some 50 species!) on the Walnut Canyon Rim Trail.
This trail goes between the golf course and Walnut Canyon. It begins just off of San Ildefonso Road, just beyond the roundabout. One goes up a dirt road for about a hundred yards, then turns left onto a trail. A bit farther on, that trail splits with the Walnut Canyon Rim Trail going right.
The blooming wildflowers begin where you park and continue all along. The trail goes for Read More
Remembering Kevin Chavez: May 4, 1988–Sept. 15, 2015
Kevin Chavez (May 4, 1988–Sept. 15, 2015)
COMMUNITY News:
The family of Kevin Chavez remembers him on the 10th Anniversary of his death with a heartfelt poem:
You are missed so very much.
We often sit and think about
The years that have passed by
And of the happiness and joy
That was shared by you and us.
We think of all the laughter,
The smiles and all the fun
Before we even know it,
Our tears have once again begun,
For although it brings us comfort
To walk down memory lane
It reminds us how, without you,
Life has never been the same.
We love you with all our hearts,
Dad, Mom, Kristin, Aaliyah, Kamille, Chris, Read More
