National History Day Showcase Featuring Local Students’ Projects Presented By Los Alamos Historical Society

Historical Society News:

The Los Alamos Historical Society invites the community to a National History Day Showcase from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at Fuller Lodge.

Community members are invited to stop by, explore student projects, including exhibit displays, websites, and documentaries, and wish participants well before they advance to the regional competition in Santa Fe.

The 2026 theme for projects is Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History.

The deadline for nominations for this year’s New Mexico School Board Association’s (NMSBA) Excellence in Student Achievement Award is fast approaching. 

Los Alamos Public Schools is accepting nominations through this Friday, Feb. 20.

This award recognizes school leaders, staff and other individuals who have played an important role in improving student achievement.

Olions ‘Mean Girls’ Opens Friday At Smith Auditorium

“Will she braid your hair? Will she eat your heart?”

Have all your questions about Regina George answered this month as the Los Alamos High School Olions present Mean Girls, based on the Paramount Pictures film of the same name.

The musical — written by Tina Fey, lyrics by Nell Benjamin, and music by Jeff Richmond — will hit the stage Feb. 20 through March 1, with performances at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. Sundays at Duane Smith Auditorium, 1300 Diamond Drive. The understudy show will be Friday, Feb. 27.

U.S. Navy’s Military Sea Craft Spotlights Third Officer Joshua Bullock Of Los Alamos In Recent Edition Of ‘We Are MSC’

U.S. Navy’s Military Sea Craft (MSC) featured Los Alamos native Joshua Bullock in its “We Are MSC” Friday, Feb. 13.

Bullock is a Third Officer aboard fleet replenishment oiler USNS Kanawha (T-AO 196). He attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Long Island, New York, then joined Military Sea Lift Command in 2023 when he graduated.

Los Alamos is Bullock’s home base when he is not deployed at sea. His younger brother, Steven,  graduated from Los Alamos High School in 2022.

Daily Postcard: A Gunnison’s prairie dog standing proudly with its belly out on Fat Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Valles Caldera National Preserve. The Gunnison’s prairie dog is a highly social critter that inhabits the montane grasslands throughout the park, living in colonies that can contain hundreds of interconnected burrows, chambers, and underground tunnels. They are herbivores, so their diets consist primarily of plant matter, although they’re known to occasionally consume an insect or two. Los Alamos Police Arrest Two Men And A Woman In Connection With Local Storage Unit Burglaries

LAPD News:

At approximately 3:30 a.m. today, Feb. 17, officers with the Los Alamos Police Department responded to reports of two men returning to the J&L Storage facility in connection with a series of recent storage unit burglaries.

Responding officers observed two men fleeing the area on foot. Officers immediately established a perimeter and requested additional resources, including the department’s K-9 unit, to assist in locating and apprehending the suspects.
