The Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce has a “really fun” FAN (Food and Networking) Club planned for Wednesday evening Jan. 16: it will be held in conjunction with the opening reception for the Metal Menagerie show in Mesa Public Library’s upstairs gallery.

UNM-LA and Los Alamos Daily Post to Co-Host College Board Forum

UNM-Los Alamos and the Los Alamos Daily Post will co-host a “UNM-LA Advisory Board Candidates Forum” on the college campus later this month.

The public is invited to attend the forum, which will feature Position 1 incumbent Ron Dolin and challenger Michelle Hall in the only position contested among the three seats coming up in this year’s race.

The forum will take place 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan 30 in Building 2, Room 230 at UNM-LA.

History has proven that sooner than later a statue will have to be purchased and installed to commentate who ever the building is named after at taxpayer expense so people who never knew or cared about will know what they looked like.

No Response for County Charter Committee

The deadline to apply for the five member committee to study utilities-related sections of the County Charter is 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21 and so far no one has submitted a letter of interest.

The Committee will include one member of Council, one member of the Department of Public Utilities’ Board, and three citizens who meet any one of the following qualifications:

  • A member of the community with Management experience;
  • A member of the community with Accounting experience; and
  • A member of the community “at large.”

‘Bicycle Dreams’ Documentary Premieres Jan. 24

Bicycle Dreams, the award-winning feature-length documentary about the Race Across America (RAAM), will premiere in Albuquerque at the University of New Mexico’s Rodey Theatre at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24.

The screening is presented as a benefit by the Bicycle Coalition of New Mexico. Bike NM will host a second screening the following Thursday, Jan. 31 at The Screen in Santa Fe.

Guest speaker at the event will be Lisa Dougherty of Los Alamos, who will be competing in her first RAAM this summer.

Bandelier Staff Leave Early Due to Snow

Bandelier National Monument authorized an early-release for all non-essential staff at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 14.
 
The Monument has been experiencing light to moderate snowfall all day, with some accumulation on the roads.
 
At 1:30 p.m., the conditions on N.M. 4 were still acceptable for safe driving, but snowfall is continuing to intensify.
 
Although the Visitor Center will close early, the Monument will remain open with no fees being collected to allow visitors to continue to access and enjoy the park in the snow.

Local Democrats Meet Thursday at UNM-LA

State Democratic Party President Javier Gonzales is scheduled to speak at the next Democratic Party of Los Alamos County meeting set for 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17.

Gonzales will talk about past elections as well as the future for the Democratic Party.
