Festival of Trees at Betty Ehart Saturday

The place to be this Saturday is right in the heart of downtown as Los Alamos MainStreet hosts the 10th annual Festival of Trees at the Betty Ehart Senior Center.

The four-hour festival of fun is just the thing to get into the holiday spirit. The day holds a bevy of holiday trees, decorations, wreaths and more all available by silent auction.

A bake sale and holiday poinsettias will add to the mini mall experience – allowing for one stop shopping. A craft fair will feature jewelry vendors and so much more.

New Mexico Female Fiction Authors Sought

An outstanding New Mexican writer will be honored for her work in fiction next spring when her book receives the prestigious Zia Award.

New Mexican women writers are invited to submit their books for consideration for the award, given each year by New Mexico Press Women at the annual spring conference.

To be eligible to receive the award, selected winners must read at the award luncheon during the 2013 conference in April.

The 2013 Zia Award will be given to the author of an outstanding fiction book published in 2010, 2011, or 2012.

The Family YMCA’s American Red Cross Babysitters Course will be held Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16 and 17. Registration must be received by 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15.

The course is designed by the American Red Cross to prepare youth with training in babysitter safety, basic child care, safe play, first aid and critical emergency skills, essential professional, leadership and care-giving skills, and how to manage real-life problems.
