Michelangelo Lobato Speaking Today to Kiwanians

KIWANIS News:

Los Alamos Teen Center Director Michelangelo Lobato will speak to local Kiwanians about a recent youth trip to Israel at noon today, Nov. 13, at the Masonic Temple.

The meeting is open to the public.

Kiwanis meets each Tuesday, noon to 1 p.m., at the Masonic Temple on Sage Street, near the intersection of 15th Street and Canyon Road.

Speakers and topics are occasionally subject to change because of illness, conflicts or weather.

Los Alamos Youth Win at National Competition

Two Los Alamos youth, Tazler Smith and Jennifer Necker participated in the English Setter Association of America National Dog Show Friday, Nov. 9 in Albuquerque. Smith, an Aspen Elementary School 6th grader, presents his dog, Arthur, during the best junior handler competition portion of the event.

Disabled Veteran Eric Schei is the Rotary Hero honored during the Rotary’s District Conference in Albuquerque in May.

Schei is a young Army veteran from Albuquerque left paralyzed from the neck down by a sniper’s bullet in Iraq.

During the Los Alamos Rotary Club’s 11:45 a.m. lunch meeting Tuesday Nov. 13, at the Dixie Girl Restaurant, Schei will speak, with the help of his parents Gordon and Christine Schei, and technology, about his experiences serving his country.

The 27th annual Los Alamos Heart Council Health Fair was held at Griffith Gymnasium Saturday, Oct. 27.

What a tremendous success!  We had close to 1,700 attendees. There were 67 exhibitors representing a wide range of health-related organizations.

More than 700 flu shots were given and 307 blood draws were done. Along with many other health screenings, 190 bike helmets were given out to Los Alamos and Northern New Mexico children.
