‘The Nutcracker’ a Sweet Treat for the Holidays

New Mexico Dance Theater Performance Company’s “The Nutcracker” opened Nov. 9.

Seeing “The Nutcracker” is like visiting an old friend. The music and the story are so comfortable and familiar we fall easily under its spell.

Adopt A Family This Holiday Season!

AAF News:

Approximately 60 families have applied for assistance this holiday season and the Los Alamos Adopt A Family Program is calling on the local community for help.

The families come into the program through the Los Alamos Public Schools, which means one or more children in the family attend a local school.

YMCA Youth Basketball Sign-up Underway

FAMILY YMCA News:

Registration is now open for the 1st through 6th grade YMCA Basketball Program. The format will be a little different this year:

1st and 2nd grade remains co-ed; 3rd and 4th / 5th and 6th will be girls and boys teams only.
 

Teams will be assigned based on the elementary school where the players attend.

Homeschoolers and out-of-district students may choose the location most convenient for them.

Practices kick off twice a week after Thanksgiving at local schools. Games will be Saturday mornings in January and February with locations to be announced.

Newly elected representative Stephanie Garcia Richard, New Mexico Legislative Dist. 43, will speak at a meeting of the American Association of University Women at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15.

Richard will talk about her plans for the upcoming legislative session and answer questions from the audience.

The meeting will be in the lower level of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2390 North Road. There is ample parking.

From 5:30–6:30 p.m. Thursday Nov. 15, American Cancer Society Relay For Life will hold a volunteer informational meeting to start planning the 2013 Relay For Life of Los Alamos.

The meeting will be at the Comfort Inn & Suites, 2455 Trinity Dr., in Los Alamos – Thanks to Felicia Duran and the Comfort Inn for donating the meeting space.

The organization is seeking walkers, cancer survivors, caregivers and community leaders to help plan the event and recruit participants.

Place Food Near Mailbox Nov. 17

The 15th annual Fall Food Drive is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17 throughout Los Alamos and White Rock.

The drive supports those in need in Los Alamos and Rio Arriba Counties through regular food distributions by LA CARES and the San Martin de Porres Soup Kitchen in Espanola.

Residents are asked to place non-perishable donations of food and supplies near their mailboxes by 10 a.m. Saturday Nov. 17 (NO GLASS CONTAINERS PLEASE!)
