LIVING TREASURES News:

Nominations for new Living Treasures for the April 2013 ceremony are now being accepted.

Only residents of Los Alamos County are eligible to be nominated and elected as Treasures.

Include as much information as possible about the nominee and how the person has contributed to making Los Alamos a great place to live.

Rotarians Learn About UNM-LA Accelerate Program

At a lunch meeting Tuesday Nov. 6, Los Alamos Rotarians learned about the Accelerate Technical Training and Job Placement Program, available at six Northern New Mexico colleges, including UNM-Los Alamos.

Among seniors, hearing loss is the third most prevalent but treatable disabling condition behind arthritis and hypertension. 

Frequently, however, hearing loss is misinterpreted as a lack of intelligence or a lack of interest. For those individuals with hearing loss this could not be further from the truth.

United Church Thrift Shop Grand Opening Nov. 14

UNITED CHURCH News:

The community is invited to the grand opening celebration of the United Church Thrift Shop Nov. 14.

The thrift shop’s new location at 2525 Canyon Road is in the lower level of Craig Hall, opening onto the parking lot on the west side of the church property.

The event will take place 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with door prizes.

At about 10 a.m., the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce will mark the occasion with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Read More

Los Alamos Historical Society is pleased to offer its 2012-2013 lecture series, “History and Science.”

The November lecture is a brief history of the Wendover Airfield in Utah by James Petersen

James Petersen’s talk on Historic Wendover Airfield will touch on the origin of Wendover, Utah, and then focus on the period from the inception of the Army Air Force base to the end of World War II.

The history of the B-17 and B-24 bomber training as well as the contribution of Wendover to the Manhattan project will be discussed.

Los Alamos Rotarians Eric Ferm and Chuck Tallman wield a two-man augur Friday afternoon at the Los Alamos High School Memorial Garden. The men prepared the soil for the Saturday work party of Rotary Club members who planted flower bulbs in the garden.
