Cat Has Been Waiting Entire Year for Adoption

SHELTER News:

Pet of the Week: Cassie – a plus-sized declawed orange tabby female who seeks human attention.

She has been at the shelter for an entire year, waiting for a family to take her home. 

Cassie tends to avoid the company of other cats in the cat room, so she may be best as a single cat and must be an indoor pet.

The Los Alamos Animal Shelter, 226 East Road, (505) 662-8179, has a large selection of on-site adoptable pets waiting for a home.

Aldaz Brings Home Three Gold Medals for Los Alamos School of Gymnastics Atomic Tumblers

Nicole Aldaz was the top all-around scorer (35.6) in the Level 4 Senior Division for Los Alamos School of Gymnastics Atomic Tumblers.  

Aldaz’s strong performance earned gold on vault (9.1) and bars (8.4), and silver on beam (9.05) and floor (9.05.)

Aldaz was among 215 gymnasts from 11 teams that gathered at Zia Gymnastics in Santa Fe on Oct. 27-28 to compete in the USA Gymnastics Jr. Olympic and Xcel Programs.

The Shire of Bryngolau (Shining Hill in Welsh) hosted a pas d’arms tournament and games event Oct. 19 at the Posse Lodge in Los Alamos.

The local group is currently an “Incipient Shire” while they demonstrate their ability to function as a full Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) branch.

The Shire of Bryngolau encompasses Los Alamos and Rio Arriba counties and has more than 20 members.

The CROP Organization and the Atomic City Road Runners Club will co-sponsor the Annual Turkey Trot event at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18 at Los Alamos Middle School.
 
All proceeds will be split with 25 percent going to LA Cares and 75 percent going to the CROP Organization, one of the late Aaron Goldman’s favorite charities.
 
The top 25 fastest runners will be recognized and all participants will have a chance to win turkeys and pumpkin pies in a random drawing.
