eComment tool: Los Alamos County launched in August 2024 an eComment tool designed to enhance public engagement for County Council meetings. The eComment function allows individuals to submit online public comments for upcoming Council meetings once the agenda is published, typically the Friday before the meeting.

Online comments may be submitted until noon on the day of the Council meeting, and copies will be provided to each councilor before the start of the meeting and become part of the public record. This tool enables residents to participate from anywhere.

Los Alamos County Invites All To 2025 Holiday Tree Lighting Dec. 6

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County invites the community to join the County Council at the 2025 Holiday Tree Lighting to celebrate the start of the holiday season.

The ceremony is 5:15-5:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, inside the Municipal Building Lobby at 1000 Central Ave. County Councilor Chair Theresa Cull will flip the switch just before 6 p.m. when the Holiday Light Parade begins.

This year’s tree will be decorated with handcrafted ornaments made of recycled materials by local schools, community members and County employees. Hot cocoa and marshmallows will be served.

The community is invited to join the Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities (DPU) and Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) for a practical talk on simple tools to track and manage home energy use, from energy monitoring apps like Sense to smart plugs and device scheduling.

County Lifeguard Instructor/Trainer Recertification Nov. 30

The Los Alamos County Lifeguard Instructor/Trainer Recertification is 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30 at the Aquatic Center, 2760 Canyon Road.

The purpose of this course is for certified American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructors to maintain their skills and certification.

All participants must register with a personal email address to access the Red Cross Learning Center.

The Los Alamos County Ice Rink, which has been on a delayed opening due to mechanical issues, opens for public skating at 11:30 this morning.

Built in 1936, the Ice Rink is the only refrigerated, NHL regulation, outdoor Ice Rink in New Mexico. The rink offers public skating, hockey, and skating lessons through February.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection At Eco Station Dec. 5

Los Alamos County’s Environmental Services will accept household hazardous waste, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at the Eco Transfer Station, 3701 East Jemez Road. Residents who already pay for curbside collection can drop off household hazardous waste at the Eco Transfer Station.
