In a practice that has occured every month for more than three decades, a group of brilliant retirees from the Weapons Group at Los Alamos National Laboratory gathered Wednesday for lunch and laughter. The group of 18 members ranges in age from the mid 60s to mid 90s. They meet at a couple of different restaurants around town and last Wednesday gathered at the Blue Window Bistro on Central Avenue. 100+ Women Who Care Meets At Cottonwood Thursday

COMMUNITY News:

The 100+ Women Who Care volunteer advisory committee invites local women to attend the open quarterly philanthropic dinner 5:30-7 pm, Thursday, Aug. 22 at Cottonwood on the Greens.

 A free meal, sponsored by TechSouce, will be provided to those who attend the event.

Attendees will hear 3 5-minute presentations from local nonprofits about their needs, and attendees will vote with their dollars to support one organization with the majority votes. 

Attendance does require a philanthropic donation per votes, described below.

Tickets are still available for “An Afternoon in Provence”, 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25 at the Pig + Fig Café in White Rock.

The fundraising event is put on by the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation and Pig + Fig Café as part of A Taste of Knowledge, which raises money for all Los Alamos Public Schools.

Tickets to “An Afternoon in Provence” are $60 and can be purchased at www.tok.givesmart.com.

The community is invited to head downtown Saturday for the the Annual Los Alamos County Fair & Rodeo Parade, which kicks off at 10 a.m., then stay to meander through Ashley Pond Park with its fair booths, bouncy houses and exhibits (at Mesa Public Library).
