My Mom finagled my first real job the summer of 1976, joining her at a factory that made Navy lifeboats. On my first day, I was placed at a table in the corner of the factory floor. My task was to put together and shrink-wrap little fishing kits: a few fish hooks, some fishing line, bait made of nasty-looking leathery strips, an instruction booklet, etc. Mowing lawns paid a lot less, but it was outdoors, with the side benefit of a then-healthy-looking suntan. ‘The Arts Of Democracy’ Mobile Museum Exhibit Visits Libraries Throughout New Mexico This June

This June the Wonders on Wheels Mobile Museum brings its exhibit, “The Arts of Democracy in New Mexico” to libraries across the state.

The exhibition honors the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and highlights ideals of freedom and self-government and how they have been expressed in art forms, particularly in New Mexico.

Visitors can see the exhibit and participate in hands-on learning activities at public libraries, as well as a few community events, for free.

Jemez Historic Site and Hummingbird Music Camp offer summer youth concerts to everyone 6-7 p.m., Saturdays, June 6 to July 25.

Enjoy a free concert series performed by campers from Hummingbird Music Camp at Jemez Historic Site while strolling the site after hours.

The Los Alamos Phi Beta Kappa Association announces the winners of its regional scholarship awards for 2026. In just the fourth year of awarding regional scholarships, due to generous donations from its members, the Los Alamos Phi Beta Kappa Association was able to award six $1,000 scholarships.

Its goal is to support historically under-represented groups in fulfilling their educational and career goals and making significant contributions to their communities, the nation and the planet in all areas of the liberal arts and sciences. Read More
