SANTA FE – State Rep. Brittney Barreras (D-Albuquerque) resigned from the New Mexico House of Representatives, effective at 11:59 p.m. Friday.

New Mexico COVID-19 Update Jan. 27: 5,179 New Cases, Totaling 465,244 With 34 Deaths & 334,988 Recovered

SANTA FE — New Mexico state health officials Thursday announced 5,179  additional COVID-19 cases.

Los Alamos County reported 32 new cases today, bringing the total to 2,237 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)

This update includes 34 new deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19 and a 7-Day positivity rate of 29.9 percent.

New Mexico Health Officials Warn Of Nursing Shortage

Nursing and hospital leaders repeatedly used the word “crisis” Thursday to describe New Mexico’s” shortage of nurses.

They spoke to the Senate Finance Committee to request additional money to train more nurses and expand nursing faculty positions at the state’s colleges and universities to accommodate more students. A University of New Mexico study determined at the end of 2020 the state had a shortage of more than 6,200 nurses.

Los Alamos County reported 9 new cases today, bringing the total to 2,161 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)
