The Acupuncture Center of Los Alamos welcomes its newest practitioner Dr. Erika Bittner.

Bittner is a Doctor of Oriental Medicine; she graduated from Southwest Acupuncture College in Santa Fe and is a Nationally Certified Acupuncturist and Herbalist.

Prior to studying Oriental Medicine, Bittner worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

New Mexico COVID-19 Update Oct. 22: 982 New Cases, Totaling 268,891, 14 New Deaths, 238,146 Recovered

SANTA FE — State health officials announced 982 new COVID-19 cases today in New Mexico.

Los Alamos County reported 2 new cases today, bringing the total to 791 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)

This update includes 14 new deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19.

Per the state Department of Health, the most recent cases are:

  • 228 new cases in Bernalillo County
  • 27 new cases in Chaves County
  • 9 new cases in Cibola County
  • 9 new cases in Colfax

LAVNS Joins Seniors Centers On ‘Ask A Nurse’ Project

Without even making an appointment, seniors will have access to their own nurse Tuesday, Oct. 26 at the Betty Ehart Senior Center.

“Ask A Nurse” is a project of the Los Alamos Visiting Nurses and local senior centers that offers seniors an opportunity to ask questions and get help from professionals.

LAVNS is a not-for-profit, Hospice and Home Health organization that has been in the community since 1973. LAVNS is available for provide community support and training, and “Ask A Nurse” is its newest effort.

County Council Meetings Return To Zooming Only Format

Beginning Tuesday Oct. 26, the Los Alamos County Council meetings will return to a Zoom-only format in response to the rising number of COVID-19 positive cases within Los Alamos County.

The meetings will continue to start at 6 p.m. with public comment available via Zoom as well. The published agenda for each meeting will include the necessary link for the public to watch and participate.

Betty Ehart Senior Center Hosts Senior Fitness Day Oct. 27

The Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization (LARSO) would like to see the community attend Senior Fitness Day 2021.

The Betty Ehart Senior Center will host two free fitness presentations for the community, Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 1101 Bathtub Row.

The first class is 9:30 a.m. with Natalie Smith who teaches a seated and a standing Zumba Class.

The second class is 11 a.m. and features Jacci Gruninger teaching a seated Yoga class.

The public must be vaccinated and have a temperature check to enter the Betty Ehart Senior Center.

Drive-Thru Adult Flu Shot Clinic At UNM-LA Saturday Oct. 23

The Los Alamos Heart Council and Los Alamos Medical Center are sponsoring a Free Flu Shot Clinic 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 23 at the back parking lot of the UNM-Los Alamos campus.

Please enter by turning onto Sandia Drive from Diamond Drive (at the old Metzger’s Station), turn left on 40th Street and follow the signs and volunteers to the back parking lot.

The standard adult flu vaccine administer in a drive-through configuration that will not require people to get out of their vehicle.
