ECECD Invests $157M To Stabilize New Mexico Child Care

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD) has announced that it awarded more than $157 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to 1,004 qualifying child care businesses across the state, constituting one of the largest investments in early care and education in New Mexico state history.

New Mexico Higher Education Department Announces Dental School Partnership With Texas Tech University

SANTA FE — Future New Mexico dental students will have something to smile about thanks to a partnership between the New Mexico Higher Education Department (NMHED) and Texas Tech University’s Hunt School of Dental Medicine in El Paso.

DEA Holds National Prescription Drug Take Back Day In Effort To Turn Tide Against U.S. Opioid Epidemic

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Drug Enforcement Administration will host its 21st National Prescription Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 23.

This event offers free and anonymous disposal of unneeded medications at more than 4,000 local drop-off locations nationwide.

According to a report published by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), a majority of people who misused a prescription medication obtained the medicine from a family member or friend.

FBI: Albuquerque Pediatric Surgeon Pleads Guilty To Possession, Distribution Of Child Pornography

FBI News:

ALBUQUERQUE – Guy Rosenschein, 68, of Albuquerque, pleaded guilty Oct. 15 in federal court to seven counts of distribution of visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct and one count of possession of visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Rosenschein will remain in custody pending sentencing, which has not been scheduled.

New Mexico COVID-19 Update Oct. 16-18: 1,895 New Cases, Totaling 265,632, 12 New Deaths, 236,245  Recovered

STATE News:

SANTA FE — State health officials announced 1,895 new cases COVID-19 cases between Saturday, Oct. 16 and Monday Oct. 18 in New Mexico.

Los Alamos County reported 14 new cases During the last three days, bringing the total to 780 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)

This update includes 12 new deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19.
