New Mexico COVID-19 Update: 226 New Cases, Total 189,374 With 5 New Death And 170,799 Patients Recovered

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials today announced 226 additional COVID-19 cases.

Los Alamos County reports no new cases today so the total remains at 493 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)

Today’s update includes 5 more deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19.

ESPAÑOLA — New Mexico Wildlife Center (NMWC) just admitted its first baby wildlife of 2021. Saturday, March 6 a Eurasian Collared-Dove was found orphaned and brought to NMWC’s wildlife hospital. It will be cared for by the wildlife rehabilitators until it is deemed releasable (likely in about one month).

New Mexico Health Dept. Transitions To New COVID-19 Vaccination Phases … 1B And 1C Now Eligible For Vaccine

NMDOH News:

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) announced today that all New Mexicans in phases 1B and 1C of the state’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan are now eligible for vaccine.

Until today, four groups were eligible for vaccine: 

  • Phase 1A (primarily health care workers and residents and staff of long-term care facilities)
  • New Mexicans age 75 and older
  • Educators, early childhood professionals, and school staff
  • New Mexicans with a chronic health condition

These groups remain eligible.

In addition, the following groups are now eligible:

New Mexico Pharmacy Board Issues Notice For Electronic Prescribing Of Controlled Substance Prescriptions

SANTA FE — The Board of Pharmacy of the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department is reminding practitioners and pharmacists that there are changes to state rules regarding electronic prescribing of controlled substance (EPCS) prescriptions in New Mexico.

County Requests Los Alamos Residents 75 & Up (Phase 1b1) Contact Social Services For COVID Vaccine Appointment

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Emergency Manager Beverley Simpson is requesting Los Alamos individuals who are 75 years of age and older to contact the County’s Social Services office if they have not yet received the COVID-19 vaccine.

Simpson is working with the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) to identify those in this category (Phase 1b1) who still need a vaccine appointment.

LAPS Returns To Full-time In Person Learning April 5

New Mexico Education Secretary Ryan Stewart announced March 8 that New Mexico schools must return to full-time in person learning by April 5.

The staff of Los Alamos Public Schools was surprised, but immediately sprang into action.

The Los Alamos School Board met in a special session March 12 to discuss reopening in person instruction on a full-time basis.
