Los Alamos School Board Meeting Highlights Feb. 9

The Los Alamos School Board met for a regular meeting Tuesday, Feb. 9. President Melanie Colgan opened the meeting by recognizing Los Alamos High School (LAHS) Librarian Shannon Seitz and her student assistant, Kira Lorenc, for contributions to Black History Month.

Lorenc created a WebQuest with more than 35 reliable websites exploring topics such as the foundations of Black History Month, significant Black figures and noteworthy historical events.

New Mexico Senate To Hear Bill To Curb Congenital Syphilis

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) Thursday shared an update about key legislation intended to combat congenital syphilis in New Mexico.

Syphilis during pregnancy can lead to serious birth defects and infant death – and is entirely preventable with timely testing and treatment of pregnant mothers. In New Mexico, cases of congenital syphilis – meaning syphilis among newborns – have increased sharply in recent years, from just six cases in 2017 to an alarming 26 cases in 2019.

New Mexico COVID-19 Update: 200 New Cases, Total Now 180,761 With 9 New Deaths And 121,606 Patients Recovered

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials announced this afternoon 200 more positive tests for COVID-19.

Los Alamos County reports 1 new case today bringing the total to 467 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)
