NWS Forecasts Areas Of Widespread High Fire Danger

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Albuquerque forecasts high fire danger through the weekend and into next week. This afternoon: areas of smoke, sunny, with a high near 78. Southwest wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Tonight: Areas of smoke. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 40. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 25 mph becoming north 5 to 10 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. Wednesday: Areas of smoke. Sunny, with a high near 66. West wind 5 to 15 mph. Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 38. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph.

USDA Forest Service Awards $30 Million For Landscape Restoration In Northern New Mexico, Southern Colorado

USDA FOREST SERVICE News:

SANTA FE – The Rio Chama Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Project (CFLRP) will receive approximately $3 million a year for the next 10 years to restore forest health, reduce the risk of destructive wildfire and support local rural economies across 3.8 million acres in New Mexico and Colorado.

Congress established the competitive Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Program to encourage the collaborative, science-based ecosystem restoration of priority forest landscapes. Read More

ALBUQUERQUE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District announced today that effective immediately Cochiti Lake is closed to ALL recreation until further notice.

Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos County and the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Los Alamos Field Office issued the following update to the community this evening on the status of the Cerro Pelado Fire burning in Jemez Mountains.
