Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District Has Closed To Public

SANTA FE – The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) has updated the closure order to protect public health and safety during fire operations on the Calf Canyon and Hermits Peak Fire.

The entire Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District is closed to the public. The order is effective from now until Dec. 31, 2022, unless rescinded earlier.

A public meeting about the Cerro Pelado Fire will be held 3-4 p.m. today at the Cochiti Lake Fire Department, 6515 Hoochaneetsa Blvd. in Cochiti Lake. Members of the Southern Area Red Team and agency representatives will discuss and answer questions about current progress and planned activities on the fire.

A public meeting also will be held in Los Alamos 5:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, May 2, at the Los Alamos County Municipal Building, 1000 Central Ave. in downtown Los Alamos.

Bandelier Closed Due To Cerro Pelado Fire

BANDELIER News:

Due to the activity of the Cerro Pelado Fire in the Jemez Mountains, Bandelier National Monument has closed until further notice.

As of Saturday evening, the Cerro Pelado Fire had consumed 15,650 acres and was 15 percent contained.

The fire began Friday, April 22 during an epic wind event. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Read More

Cochiti Lake Closed To Water Recreation Until Further Notice Due To Cerro Pelado Fire

ALBUQUERQUE — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District announced Friday that effective immediately Cochiti Lake is closed to all water recreation until further notice.

Cochiti Reservoir will be used as a water supply for aerial firefighting support of wildland firefighter operations to combat the spread of the Cerro Pelado Fire burning approximately 7 miles east of Jemez Springs.
