SANTA FE — The New Mexico Supreme Court will phase in an Eviction Prevention and Diversion Program statewide starting in April and in stages lift a moratorium on evictions of people unable to pay their rent during the COVID-19 pandemic.

House Of Representatives Passes New Mexico Housing Trust Fund With Bipartisan Support

SANTA FE — The House Tuesday night passed SB 134, the New Mexico Housing Trust Fund with a bipartisan vote of 51-15. 

The legislation would create a recurring source of revenue for the New Mexico Housing Trust Fund. It amends the Severance Tax Bonding Act, earmarking 2.5 percent of the annual senior severance tax bond capacity for the New Mexico Housing Trust Fund.

This fund will be administered by the Mortgage Finance Authority and will be used to build, rehabilitate and weatherize affordable homes for low-income New Mexicans.

New Mexico Housing Modernization Bill Passes House

SANTA FE — HB 65, which modernizes New Mexico’s legal protections for renters, passed the House Saturday by a vote of 38 to 27.

The bill would expand legal recourse for renters through several key provisions.

HB 65 allows residents more time to make rent payments, reduces the amount of late fees an owner may charge, and increases the amount of time a tenant has to prepare for court or to vacate the premises, if they are ordered to do so.

County Issues Update On Canyon Walk Apartments

Los Alamos County Community Development Department officials announced today that two of the seven buildings of the long-anticipated Canyon Walk Apartments will be ready by the end of January.

Canyon Walk Apartments is the 70-unit Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) multi-family development on DP Road. The apartments were originally scheduled for full opening by Jan. 31, 2021.
