Interfaith Los Alamos Ramps Up Donation Drive After Thieves Steal Thousands Of Dollars In Winter Coats

Interfaith Los Alamos has ramped up its winter coat drive underway for refugees recently resettled in New Mexico after thieves stole thousands of dollars in winter coats and hygiene products Oct. 2 from a warehouse in Albuquerque.

Lutheran Family Services (LFS) is the only organization licensed by the US State Department to resettle refugees in the state. More than 100 families have been newly resettled during this past year alone, many from Afghanistan.

New Mexico State Police (NMSP) is conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols and registration, insurance, and driver’s license checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during the month of November 2022.

Streets Closed During Trick-Or-Treat On MainStreet Friday

Los Alamos MainStreet would like to alert the community to a road closure 4-6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 as part of the annual Trick-or-Treat on MainStreet event.

Due to the nature of the event, a road closure will be in place 3-6:30 p.m. on Central Avenue between 15th and 20th streets, including any side street access.

SANTA FE — New Mexico tourism is officially back on track and realizing record growth.

According to the New Mexico Tourism Department’s (NMTD) annual economic impact study, New Mexico welcomed a record 39 million visitors in 2021. The 2021 visitor volume generated an estimated $7.2 billion in direct spending in 2021, including a record $7 billion in visitor spending by domestic travelers.

Atomic City Transit will provide free shuttle service to the Los Alamos Pumpkin Glow & Fireworks event to be held at Overlook Park in White Rock Saturday, Oct 29.

Shuttle service will begin at 3 p.m. from Sullivan Field in Los Alamos and the White Rock Visitor Center. Continuous shuttle service will be provided throughout the event with the last bus leaving Overlook Park at 9:30 p.m.
