SANTA FE — New Mexicans can once again submit creative, winter-themed names for state snowplows, with the top 12 winning entries to be displayed on plows clearing roads across all six highway districts this winter. 

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) launched the third annual Name a Snowplow Contest this week, inviting residents to break out their creativity and submit their best, boldest and catchiest snowplow names. Submissions will be accepted through noon Friday, Dec. 26.

New Mexico Department Of Transportation Seeks $487 Million To Address Transportation Funding Gap

SANTA FE — Deteriorating roads cost New Mexico drivers $3.6 billion a year, and the state has $5.6 billion in unfunded transportation needs.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) will present its $487 million nonrecurring request for fiscal year 2027 to the Legislative Finance Committee on Wednesday, citing declining fuel tax revenues, rising construction costs and diverse transportation sector needs.

The department’s proposed fiscal year 2027 operating budget is $1.3 billion — a $29.9 million decrease from the current fiscal year. Read More

Road Closure Scheduled For North Road Today!

The south lane of North Road will be closed between Quemazon Place and Diamond Drive from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., today, Dec. 10, to repair a sewer main. The north lane of North Road will remain open for access to the Quemazon Neighborhood.

Drivers will need to detour to the north to exit the Quemazon Neighborhood.

Public Safety Moment: Slow Down Especially In Ice & Snow!

COUNTY News:

Despite Thursday morning’s weather and hazardous road conditions, Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) officers conducted 20 traffic stops and issued nearly 30 citations, most of them for speeding.

Several drivers were cited for traveling more than 26 miles per hour – or more – over the posted speed limit.

Excessive speeding on wet or icy roads is extremely dangerous. LAPD reminds all drivers to slow down and exercise caution during their commutes—no matter the weather or road conditions.
