At the Mountaineers meeting Tuesday Feb. 25, Martin Staley and Tanja Pietrass will tell the story of their July/August 2019 adventure to Iceland and Greenland, the main ingredient of which was a 10-day, 100-mile backpack on Greenland’s remote and beautiful Arctic Circle Trail, basically following the Arctic Circle westward from Kangerlussuaq, near the ice cap, to Sisimiut on the coast.

Canyon Road Vegetation Control Operation Begins Feb. 20

Traffic Alert:

Beginning Thursday, Feb. 20 through Fe. 25, the Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets Division of the Public Works Department will be working on Canyon Road, between 15th Street and the Aquatic Center.

Crews will be clearing vegetation along the medians and sidewalks. A flagging operation will be in place 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., during the weekdays.

Vehicle and pedestrian traffic are urged to slow down and use caution in this work zone.

Roadside Art: Slug Bug Ranch

Slug Bug Ranch: Most everyone has heard of or seen the Cadillac Ranch off I-40 near Amarillo, Texas where several Cadillac automobiles are buried nose first in a line. Over time the cars have disintegrated and visitors have spray painted the Caddys on every surface possible. However, there is another ranch down the road between Amarillo and the Oklahoma state line in the tiny town of Conway, Texas. Again, just off I-40, is the Slug Bug Ranch. There are five VW Beetles buried nose down next to an old, run down, shell of a former gas station. Again, the Slug Bugs are spray painted just like the Cadillacs. Read More

HillStrummers Play Romantic Programs At Senior Centers

The HillStrummers Ukulele Group will play February Programs of “Love & Romance” at the local senior centers.

White Rock Senior Center: 11:30 a.m. to noon, Friday, Feb. 21. Lunch is catfish, hushpuppies, tartar sauce, German coleslaw, and fruit cocktail.
