Recently, Warren Buffett surprised his shareholders by announcing he was stepping aside as the CEO of Berkshire Hathway.

Warren Buffett is not like other billionaires who show off their wealth with rocket ships or spend it buying political favor.

He’s the best of the billionaires. Financial journalist Andrew Sorokin termed him the “conscience of capitalism”.

I’ve been a follower of Warren Buffett for 30 years. One day in 1994, my dad came to my office. He announced he might buy some shares of Berkshire Hathaway stock. His only reluctance Read More

County: Faulty Gasket Caused Sinkhole In White Rock

A crack in this new gasket would have allowed a slow leak in the line to erode the earth around it enough to cause the recent sinkhole in White Rock. Courtesy/LAC

COUNTY News:

A new, but faulty, gasket appears to be the cause of the sinkhole that recently appeared on the road near the intersection of N.M. 4 and Rover Boulevard in White Rock.

The water transmission line feeding White Rock and running parallel to N.M. 4 was replaced earlier this year under a Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) project. Contractor Wagner Construction led the effort, which included a section of pipe that crossed Read More

NMDOT News:

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is warning residents about a widespread scam targeting New Mexicans with fake toll road payment demands.

This alert comes after a surge in calls from concerned citizens Read More

Fr. Glenn: Of Shepherd And Mothers

By Fr. Glenn Jones:

Well, now habemus papam … we have a pope. We Catholics see the pope first in authority in the faith, because Jesus designated Peter as “… the rock upon which I will build my Church” (Matthew 16:18 ) After Jesus’ resurrection, the Eleven chose a replacement for Judas Iscariot the betrayer, following psalm 109:8: “His office let another take.” (Acts 1:20). Likewise, the pope takes the place of Peter as head of the current “apostles”, the bishops. The pope, too, is a bishop—the bishop of the seat of the Church: Rome … Rome being the place of martyrdom of Peter, and of Paul.

We all have parishioners who have struggled to have children, who never had the opportunity, or who are estranged from members of their family. We have some parishioners whose mothers were abusive or never Read More
