LA Piecemakers Hold First Daytime Meeting

The LA Piecemakers group is holding its first daytime meeting at noon Tuesday, Feb. 26.

The group will meet at Graves Hall at the United Church of Los Alamos on Rose Street. Fiber artist Carol Martin-Davis from El Rito will be the featured speaker.

Ruby K’s Celebrates Eighth Birthday and Extends Hours

Ruby K’s Bagel Café is about to reach a milestone and achieve a goal. The restaurant is approaching its eighth anniversary and will extend their hours.

Ruby K’s will have its “Eighth Birthday Party Celebration” Feb 22 and 23. The restaurant will serve samples of its new menu items and smoothies. 

The celebration also will include prize drawings, face painting, glitter tattoos, balloon animals and cupcake decorating.

January Home Sales Off and Running

RANM News:

There were 970 home sales reported to the REALTORS® Association of New Mexico (RANM) for January 2013.

This is more than 19 percent more sales than January 2012 and nearly 24 percent more than the number of sales reported in January 2011.

Only four counties reported a drop in the number of sales for January 2013 compared to January 2012.

“What a great way to start 2013,” RANM President Cathy Colvin said. “Inventories are still low in many markets, but the pent-up demand for homes is creating activity in markets around the state.”

Food on the Hill: Rice Pudding

Ingredients…

3  1/3 cups whole milk
1 large orange- zested (use zest only)
1 1/2 lemon -zested (use zest only)
7 Tablespoons long grain rice
1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1/3 cup heavy cream

Put everything but the vanilla in a 2 quart non-stick pan and cook on stove top on very low until rice is tender, stir every few minutes, watch the rice carefully so it does not burn.

IHM Holds Friday Fish Fries

IHM News:

It is Fish Fry time again at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Hall, 5 to 7 p.m. Fridays during Lent.

The dinners are sponsored by the Knights of Columbus and proceeds will benefit Nuestros Pequenos Orphanage in Honduras and other charities.
