Valles Caldera Trust Recaps Record Year

JEMEZ SPRINGS – A year of recovery, restoration and new beginnings was highlighted by record revenues and visitation at the Valles Caldera National Preserve in 2012.

The numbers are detailed in the Valles Caldera Trust’s Report to Congress for Fiscal Year 2012 (Oct. 1, 2011 through Sept. 30, 2012.)

The report details the challenges and successes of 2012, reviews the historical accomplishments and progress made from 2008-2012 and presents the outlook for fiscal year 2013.

TOTH Hosts Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, 3900 Trinity Dr., invites the community to a Shrove Tuesday (Mardi Gras) pancake supper from 5:30-7 p.m., Feb. 12.

There will be beads, masks and Dixieland music. The menu includes ham, pancakes, a variety of syrups, fruit, eggs cooked to order, and orange juice. 

Tickets can be purchased at the door at $4 for children, $8 for adults, and $20 for a family. All proceeds go toward the Juarez House Build Mission trips, which take place this fall.

Ingredients….
 
1 1/2 cups flour
3 cups (8 oz) shredded Parmesan cheese
2/3 cup Kraft Parmesan- Romano cheese
1 tablespoon fresh cracked pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
5-7 tablespoons water

In a large bowl mix together, flour, cheese, pepper and salt until well blended.

Jazz Night came back to the Blue Window Bistro Saturday night when a full house enjoyed the Tom Rheam Trio from Santa Fe.

The Blue Window is a great place to hear jazz. The lights are low, the space is intimate and the conversations are muted during the music.

It’s a cold winter night in Los Alamos, but at the Family YMCA, our very own roller derby team is generating plenty of heat as they spin around the gym at top speed.

The Los Alamos Derby Dames is a flat track roller derby league founded in April 2011. The league currently has one team, the M’Atom Bombs.

If you have never been to a poetry reading, this month’s Authors Speak event is a great way to get your feet wet.
