A song we will be singing at 6:07 p.m. this Sunday night at our Contemporary Service, at Trinity on the Hill, is called “You Are More,” from Tenth Avenue North. One of the verses sings of a girl with tear-stained eyes, sitting in the corner of a bar. She wonders “How did I get here? No Tricks, Just Treats at Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast Saturday

A local witch invites the community to the Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos annual Fall Pancake Breakfast 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Betty Ehart Senior Center. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, coffee, juice and milk, with seconds available until the food runs out. The witch featured here, is one of two witches who will fly through the dining room between 9 and 9:30 a.m., distributing wrapped candy to children attending the breakfast. Food on the Hill: Wine Poached Stuffed Pears

Wine Poached Stuffed Pears

4 pears, all about the same size and stands well. They need to be ripe, but still firm

1 cup white sugar

2 cups sweet red wine

2 oz softened cream cheese

1/4 cup of well chopped walnuts

1/4 cup brown sugar

Cut off the cap of each pear. Using a round core cutter and a 1/4 teaspoon measure spoon and a thin sharp knife remove the core of each pear very carefully. Do not cut the pear all the way through

The First Baptist Church of Los Alamos is hosting a Fall Gathering Conference on Oct. 27 and 28 focusing on “Building Stronger Marriage, Parenting, & Family – Relationships.”

Dr. Doug Weiss is the guest speaker at the conference. First Baptist Church is at 2200 Diamond Dr.

Weiss is a licensed psychologist and the executive director of Heart to Heart Counseling Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

He has appeared as an expert on many national TV shows including Dr. Phil, Oprah, 20/20, Good Morning America and the 700 Club.

Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2390 North Road in Los Alamos announces the dedication of its Labyrinth and invites the public to help in consecrating this new sacred space for use by all members of the Los Alamos Community.

Food on the Hill: Lobster Stuffed Potatoes

This week’s recipe:

Lobster Stuffed Potatoes

4 large baking potatoes
olive oil
1 cup onion, chopped
1 shallot, diced
2 tablespoons butter
1 pound fresh lobster meat (or imitation)
(you can also use turkey, shrimp, crab or chicken)
1/2 cup dry wine
1/4 cup sour cream
4 oz cream cheese, softened
2 cup Jarlsberg cheese, grated
1/2 stick butter
salt & pepper

Lightly coat potatoes in olive oil and bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour. Cool potatoes until they can be handled. Cut potatoes in half and scoop out

Beer Pairing at Los Alamos Co-op

CO-OP News:

The Los Alamos Cooperative Market began bringing local brewers to Los Alamos with their first Beer Dinner in October of last year.

The Co-op’s third Beer Dinner was held last Thursday and featured Second Street Brewery. The food focused on local and organic ingredients, which are all available at the Co-op.
