The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos is hosting its first wine dinner fundraiser.
The event is 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28 at the Dixie Girl Restaurant, 1789 Central Ave.
“Autumn in Provence” is the theme for the wine dinner.
Included in the elegant event is a five-course gourmet meal, which will feature paired french wines selected by Dixie Girl co-owner Jake Smith to uniquely match each course.

Eight Los Alamos families are working hard to prepare for Los Alamos Home Tour 2012. The families will open their homes to visitors 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29.
The event will benefit the Family Strengths Network (FSN.) Tickets are $20 in advance and may be purchased CB FOX, Otowi Station, Los Alamos Medical Center Gift Shop and the Reel Deal Theater.
On the day of the tour, tickets may be purchased at 9 a.m. in front of Ruby K’s for $25.
Homes on the tour include new homes, remodeled homes and a historic home on Bathtub Row.

“Music of Faith, Grace & Love” is the theme of an upcoming concert at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos.
The public is invoted to attend this musical program, which begins at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30 and will feature classical, sacred and contemporary Christian music.
Performances will spotlight the talents of various vocalists, chamber choirs, pianists, guitarists, violinists and the Black Mesa Brass Quintet.
Admission to the concert is free, but donations are gratefully accepted to benefit the Cathy LeClaire Memorial Organ fund.

The Los Alamos Jewish Center is pleased to invite all members of the greater Jewish family to attend High Holy Day services beginning at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16.
Services this year will be led, with assistance from knowledgeable congregants, by Rabbi Melissa Klein, of Philadelphia.
Klein grew up in Los Alamos.

LeadHer: Los Alamos is a new, interdenominational Christian women’s group.
The first LeadHer Los Alamos meeting will be 6:30–7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12 at the Mesa Public Library (Community Rooms upstairs) in Los Alamos.
The purpose of this group is to help women grow spiritually through revelation, inspiration and application.
LeadHer Los Alamos meets twice a month. The first meeting the women get together and watch a video teaching with a theme.

Ruby K’s Bagel Café has been a part of Beth Bowman’s routine for the past seven years. Every Wednesday, after working out with friends, they all go to Ruby K’s for bagels.
She has recently joined the staff as a baker.

UNITED CHURCH News:
The United Church of Los Alamos is under construction. The $2.4 million renovation project includes most of the campus, including the Christian Education Building, Sanctuary, Thrift Shop and parking lots at 2525 Canyon Road.
An elevator and atrium are being installed in the Christian Education Building.
The church had a successful fund raising campaign earlier this year that has allowed it to proceed with this major project. Read More
