The Tallis Project At Cathedral Of St. John Nov. 23

ALBUQUERQUE Polyphony: Voices of New Mexico will stage, in a public setting, a reconstruction of Talls’ monumental 40-part Renaissance motet, Spem in Alium, written in 1570 for eight choirs of five voices each.
 
Arguably the greatest work of Renaissance choral music by an English composer, Spem in Alium was Tallis’ crowning achievement.
 
This project is supported by a grant from New Mexico Arts.
 
Date: Saturday, Nov. 23 at Cathedral of St. John, 318 Silver Ave. SW in Albuquerque.

The UNM-LA campus will once again host the annual regional piano competition of the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico (PMTNM) 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, where 26 contestants ranging in age from seven-to-16 will converge on the campus.

The Los Alamos public is cordially invited to attend both the competition and then hear the winners of the competition when they present a Winner’s Recital at 2 p.m. Sunday.
