NM Symphonic Chorus Presents The Creation

ALBUQUERQUE  The sixth season of the New Mexico Symphonic Chorus comes to a sensational close with Haydn’s The Creation at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 7, at the First United Methodist Church in Albuquerque.
 
Roger Melone will conduct, and the New Mexico Philharmonic will join the Chorus in performing this magnificent oratorio, thought by many to be Haydn’s greatest masterpiece.

A Los Alamos favorite and Taos native Max Gomez returns Saturday, April 8 to play Fuller Lodge.

Local piano virtuoso Juanita Lash Madland will present a piano concert for the Arts Council Brown Bag series at noon April 5 in Fuller Lodge. Included will be compositions by J.S. Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Schubert, Schumann, Ginastera, and an original piece by the pianist. This concert also will be presented in May in Minneapolis. Julia Chen, a 12-year-old pianist from Los Alamos—having appeared in last week’s news as the Mountain Club 2017 State Swim Champion—trades in her swim cap this weekend for the keyboard of a 9-foot Steinway Concert Grand.
 
Chen, who although having studied piano only four years, has shown a “great dedication to the piano along with a developing command of advanced repertoire,” according to her teacher, Dr. Madeline Williamson of Los Alamos Piano Studio.
