LAHS’s Nora Scott Gives Senior Voice Recital At Fuller Lodge Friday, May 27

MUSIC News:

Nora Scott, graduating with the 2016 senior class of Los Alamos High School, will perform a voice recital at 1 p.m. Friday at Fuller Lodge. 

Scott was a member of Los Alamos High School premier choir Schola Cantorum that has performed at the Lincoln Center and throughout Europe. She also has taken voice lessons from Alicia Solomon for the past two years.

Atomic City Children’s Theater (ACCT), Los Alamos Public Schools’ award winning after-school musical theater program announced their events and shows for the 2016-17 season.

ACCT Summer Workshops

ACCT’s jam-packed season begins in August with the return of their popular ACCT Summer Workshops. The Summer Workshops are 9-11 a.m., Aug. 1-5 in two locations at the high school. The Dance, Acting and Music workshops are in the Topper Theater Monday-Wednesday. The workshops will then move to Smith Auditorium Thursday-Friday for the Stagecraft/Prop and Makeup workshops. The Rotary Club of Los Alamos recently held auditions for the annual Deborah Beene Music Award competition. 

The award was established in the memory of Deborah Beene, daughter of Donald and Sara Beene, a violin and piano student who died while enrolled in school here in December 1973.

Community Winds Presents ‘The Planets’ Tonight In White Rock

The Los Alamos Community Winds will take the audience on an interplanetary adventure at tonight’s concert. The centerpiece of the concert is Gustav Holst’s “The Planets, Op 39 (1918).

The work is based on astrology, rather than astronomy.

A short book by Alan Leo called “What is a Horoscope?” suggested to Holst the possibilities for musically interpreting the influences of each planet. Los Alamos Arts Council’s (LAAC) Kite Festival launches this weekend. The festival is a 19-year tradition, which showcases expert flyers who perform dizzy aerial acrobatic moves with sophisticatedly constructed kites as well as simple, hand-made paper kites piloted enthusiastically by young children.
