Janiva Magness’ show at Ashley Pond tonight will be a lot more than a great concert, it’ll be an experience! The “experience” is presented by the sponsors of the Los Alamos County Summer Concert Series. It’s another free Los Alamos concert, it starts at 7 p.m. and you should be bring your friends, family and chairs.

LALO Performs ‘Broadway on the Hill’ Aug. 15-16

LALO News:

Los Alamos Light Opera (LALO) is hosting a fundraiser to continue producing shows for the community.

LALO will perform “Broadway on the Hill,” a concert of broadway songs at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 15, and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Performing Arts Center, 1670 Nectar St.

Tickets are $15 and $10.

There also will be a raffle for which tickets are $5 for five tickets or $10 for 15 tickets. One of the prizes is two Orchestra Center tickets to WICKED at Popejoy Hall. There are other great items donated by many talented people in the local community.

Guitarist Richard Hannemann will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 at Duane Smith Auditorium. Tickets are $15 and should be purchased in advance from Pet Pangea, CB FOX, or Hannemann Music 505.662.0380 (tickets will not be available at the door).

The program, “Musica Vitae” is a selection of original songs and guitar solos written between 1970 and 2006. The music presented is a variety of styles drawing from folk, Spanish, classical, light jazz and a touch of blues.

I imagine that you get feedback from time to time that you missed a dynamite Los Alamos County Summer Concert Series show.

Tonight with the Shinyribs will be a tremendous show that is not to be missed. The venue is Ashley Pond and the show starts at 7 p.m. The weather is iffy but the show will go on. We’ll have some extra tents out and, again, a Shinyribs night is truly amazing.

Classical Music World: Answering Classical Concert Questions

A few of weeks ago I tried to define and then slap down three reasons why people don’t come to classical music concerts. My message was that you don’t have to know anything about classical music to enjoy it, you don’t have to dress up and you don’t have to clean out your bank account to attend.
