Topper Choirs in Concert Monday

Join the Los Alamos High School Topper Choirs at 7 p.m. Monday, May 12 at Duane Smith Auditorium for their Spring Concert and Silent Auction.

Before the concert and during intermission, the choirs will be auctioning off groups of teenagers to help with yard work, garden and landscaping projects, spring cleaning and more. Read More

The Sangre de Cristo Chorale completes its 36th season with spring concert Baroque Fireworks! at 7 p.m.  Friday, May 9 at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2390 North Road in Los Alamos.

Dr. Maxine Thévenot will direct the chorale’s performance of Bach’s Cantata # 78, and Part Three of Handel’s Messiah, together with movements from Handel’s Four Coronation Anthems. Free Brass Concert at Fuller Lodge @ Noon Today

The Ad Hoc Octet, a brass ensemble made up of members of the Brave New Brass and the Black Mesa Brass quintets, will perform a Brown Bag Recital at noon today at Fuller Lodge. The Los Alamos Symphony Orchestra (LASO) will perform its Spring Concert at 7 p.m. Friday, May 2 at Crossroads Bible Church and the viola section is busy preparing. The program includes “Overture to Nabucco” by Giuseppe Verdi, “Carmen Suite #1” by Georges Bizet and “Symphony in D minor” by César Franck.

Student Musicale at UNM-LA Sunday

LA Music Teacher News:

The public is invited to a Student Musicale at 2 p.m. Sunday at UNM-Los Alamos (Building 2). The Musicale will be followed at 3 p.m. by a Los Alamos Music Teachers Meeting.

Performers in the Musicale range in age from first grade through college-age. They include:  violinist Jamie Philp accompanied by Susan Mendel; pianists Kathleen Brodnax, Zachary Griego-Dreicer, Karin Ebey, Sonja Ebey, Jennie Gao, Gala Nelson, Konstantin Nelson, Nikolai Nelson, Aidan Ortiz.

Rotarian Brian Newnam Shares Classification Talk

Rotarian Brian Newnam presented a classification talk at the April 15 Rotary Club meeting at the Manhattan Project Bar & Grill. Newnam was a laser physicist with Los Alamos National Laboratory for 30 years. As a violinist and violist, he has performed with the Orchestra of Santa Fe, the San Juan Symphony in Durango, and several other orchestras in Northern New Mexico. Guitar Class Makes Beautiful Music at UNM-LA

Students enrolled in one of the guitar classes at UNM-Los Alamos practice in unison Thursday evening in Building 2. UNM-LA is offering two classes this fall in Guitar 1 and Rock Music Appreciation.
