New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham Responds To USDA Suspension Of SNAP Benefits

From the Office of the Governor:

SANTA FE – Today, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s suspension of SNAP benefits for 42 million individuals nationwide effective Nov. 1:

The federal government’s refusal to pay for SNAP benefits in November is unconscionable — and the absurdity doesn’t end there. For New Mexico, that’s 460,000 people in our state — 21 percent of our population, the highest participation rate in the nation. The federal government has abandoned its responsibility to feed families.

Op-Ed: No Kings Protest 2.0 Showcases Unity

By KELLY DOLEJSI
Los Alamos

Saturday’s No Kings events across the U.S. likely included some Marxists and anti-fascists, but the overwhelming majority of those peacefully protesting were there because we don’t want one branch of government to rule unchecked by the other two. Such a government is unconstitutional and anti-American.

The protest included the expected Progressives and Democrats, but also Centrists and former Republicans, united in our strong disapproval of how the president insults, indicts, lies about, fires, or otherwise ruins those who publicly disagree with him.

For the Los Alamos Daily Post

It started just after midnight Pacific Time on Monday—most of us were likely still half-asleep, relying on devices we trust to wake us, shop for us, secure our homes, keep us connected.

Instead, a massive outage across the internet made it clear just how thin the thread is that holds our digital lives together.

I was trying to check my Ring cam on the front porch about 3 a.m. to check on the pumpkin my kid carved and see if anything was trying to eat it. It wouldn’t connect at all and wouldn’t even display history. I checked downdetector.com Read More

Denish: Be An Informed Voter

By DIANE DENISH
Corner To Corner

It’s local election season across New Mexico—our chance to choose the people who represent us closest to home: mayors, city councilors, and school board members.

While candidates have a responsibility to share their ideas and solutions, voters have an equal responsibility to vet those candidates. Doing that work now prepares us for 2026 and beyond, when more statewide and federal races will appear on the ballot. Yes, it takes time, but the payoff comes when you fill out your ballot knowing exactly who you’re voting for, what they stand Read More

Cruz-Murphy: Understanding Voter ID Requirements

By DELIA CRUZ-MURPHY
Los Alamos

Greetings to all those at the League of Women Voters,

I’m writing because I’ve been mulling over some of the conversations around voter identification, and I’m hoping you could shed a little more light on your perspective. I understand your organization has a particular stance on the matter, especially concerning the potential impact on certain groups like women, minorities, and military personnel.

From my own daily experiences, it seems like we encounter requests for identification pretty regularly. For instance, I recently went through Read More

Republican Party Of New Mexico Issues Statement About ‘No Kings’ Protests Happening Today Across State & Nation

From the Republican Party of New Mexico:

Across New Mexico, protests are being organized under the banner of “No Kings,” but many New Mexicans are left wondering, what exactly does this movement stand for? Are they uniting Marxists? Supporting communism, Antifa, or even Hamas? Are they calling for anarchy?

Whatever the message behind these protests may be, it stands in stark contrast to what President Donald J. Trump has been doing for this country, putting America and Americans first. For the first time in modern history, we have a president who prioritizes the people over the political elite, Read More
